Makeup etc.

 Hi All -

Sorry for the many emails (show week, and all).

A few have asked for clarification about makeup for the kids.

Below is a bulleted list for clarification, please email me directly if you have further questions.

Thank you for your patience, and support of the arts! I promise all the hard work is worth it when those kids hear the applause and get to ride the wave of excitement for the shows! It's what keeps me coming back year after year. I love to listen to their excitement and see their smiles, which brings me to the title of this email, their smiles!  It's been two years without seeing half their faces and Mary Poppins Jr. will be the first live, in-person, maskless event in the HHS auditorium since the pandemic began in 2020. This eighth-grade group were my sixth graders in Little Mermaid Jr. when their first experience here was canceled. Last year through determination, grit, and resilience the kids and this year's seventh-graders were able to pull off a fully remote musical but we didn't get to hear their voices live or see their sweet faces entirely. This year, finally, fingers-still-crossed, these kids will be able to sing and perform live for you. This means makeup.
  • All students will wear makeup (a little at least or they will be washed out on the live stream and in person from the LED lights.
  • There will be communal makeup with individual applicators to use at the set.
  • There will be hairspray and hair gel, combs, and brushes that I will use for hair for the show.
  • If you would prefer here is a list of cosmetics your child will need for the show:
  • Foundation (closest to their skin tone, or something to smooth complexions I am least concerned with foundation but the product does stay better with some sort of base.
  • Blush - for boys a brown/pink and for girls a true pink/red brighter shade
  • Eyeshadow - for boys a brown/tan and for girls purple
  • BLACK mascara regardless of eyelash or hair color, everyone wears black
  • BLACK eye pencil not liner for outlining the eye
  • Lipstick - for boys a brownish/neutral, for girls a pretty pink or reddish pink (not bright red preferably)
  • Their hair unless I've talked to them should be clean and dry, please.
I think that is it for now, if I think of something else I will send along more information.

Thank you again for your attention to all of this!  Only theatre people understand the push to the finish!
